Omnisphere Installation and Authorization Procedure

Note that Muse Research does not distribute nor sell this plug-in. Rather, this free download configures your Receptor to allow your previously purchased plug-in to be authorized using the plug-in developer's own authorization methodology.

You must already own the original plug-in to be able to authorize it using this download!

IMPORTANT: You need to have access to the Receptor GUI via a connected VGA monitor or by using Receptor Remote; you cannot authorize Spectrasonics plug-ins from Receptor's front panel.

IMPORTANT: If you haven't already done so you MUST update your Receptor to the latest version before installing this file to ensure compatibility.

How to install:

  1. Download the plug-in "prep installer".
  2. Copy it to the "<Receptor Hard Drive>\Drop Installers Here\" folder.
  3. Click the "Install" button from the Receptor's SETUP window.
  4. Follow these plug-in specific Installation Notes:

How to copy the Omnisphere core library material to Receptor

The core library of sounds for Omnisphere are located on each of the 6 installation disks in the Core Library folder, i.e. STEAM/Omnisphere/Soundsources/Factory/Core Library. There are 11 core library sound folders in all, e.g. Psychoacoustic.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Three of the core library sound folders are spread out over two install discs. These are the Human Voices, Synthesizers and Psychoacoustic sound folders.

Start with Disc 1 and continue in order. Browse to the Core Library folder on each of the six discs and copy the material to the equivalent directory in Receptor, i.e. /Program Files/Spectrasonics/STEAM/Omnisphere/Soundsources/Factory/Core Library/

In the cases where the sound folders are spread out over two discs, merge (add) the material from the second disc to these sound folders.

Important note for Mac users: Macs will REPLACE similarly named contents while dragging and dropping folders. Please open up the Soundsource folders on your installer DVDs and copy over the individual folders that are inside the Soundsource folder to ensure that you aren't inadvertently writing over files on the Receptor. For example, there might be the folder "Human Voices" on two different DVDs... after you install the first folder called "Human Voices", you will then want to copy the CONTENTS of any subsequent folder titled "Human Voices" from subsequent DVDs instead of the folder itself. This is a problem only with the Mac and the good news is that only a couple of folders are split over multiple DVDs.

For a complete list of the contents of the Core Library folders in each of the discs see below:

    • Disc 1: 3 folders: Human Voices, Retro, and Synthesizers. Plus 3 files Preferences.xml, version.txt and zmap.index.
    • Disc 2: 3 folders: *Human Voices (merge to same folder on Receptor), SFX and Noise, and Textures.
    • Disc 3: 2 folders: Composite Morphing and Traditional.
    • Disc 4: 2 folders: Distortion and *Synthesizers (merge to same folder on Receptor).
    • Disc 5: 2 folders: One Shots, Psychoacoustic and Waveforms.
    • Disc 6: 1 folder: *Psychoacoustic (merge to same folder on Receptor).

Here is a screen shot of what the Omnisphere Core Library folder in Receptor should look like when completed:

    Omnisphere Core Library

After installing and registering Omnisphere, please:

    1. Download the factory patches and uncompress them on your computer. [download]
    2. Then log on to your Receptor's hard drive and drag all the individual folders (using "Select All") inside the uncompressed folder and drag them into "Drop Installers Here" on your Receptor.
    3. Then go to the setup page and click on "Install 4185 files" and in a few seconds all of the factory patches will be available at the Receptor Source Bank and Preset level.

Please note that selecting patches from the Source Bank and Preset level will load patches faster than doing so from the Omnisphere GUI.

Developer: Spectrasonics
Product: Omnisphere
Code (SKU): omnisphere

Omnisphere combines a wide variety of hybrid realtime synthesis techniques, an epic library of 'Psychoacoustic' sounds, and many innovative features that have never been seen before in any hardware or software synthesizer.

Omnisphere is designed with a unique user interface containing progressive layers of 'zooming' to accommodate the complete range of users - from musicians who just want to be inspired by the sounds and customize them in an easy way, to expert synthesists and the most advanced sound designers. Users can go deeper and deeper into the software and progress in their synthesis knowledge by simply exploring additional levels of sound manipulation options. To make sure that all users get the most out of the new capabilities, Omnisphere includes an extensive set of video tutorials and synthesis lessons taught by the Spectrasonics sound design team.

Omnisphere offers a host of hybrid synthesis and new control capabilities including Variable Waveshaping DSP synthesis, Granular synthesis, Timbre Shifting, FM, polyphonic Ring Modulation, high-resolution streaming Sample Playback, Harmonia, Dual Multimode Filter structure, Chaos Envelopes, an advanced Unison mode, and the innovative Flex-Mod modulation routing system - to name a few.

The huge core library of Omnisphere is filled with years of creative sampling experiments and thousands of inspiring patches. Spectrasonics has pioneered several brand-new types of sampling for the core library of this instrument, including unique "Psychoacoustic" sounds and soundsources created with a new Composite Morphing Technique (CMT) - which morphs the harmonic characteristics of one instrument to another. As a bonus, a section of the core library is also devoted to representing the best of Spectrasonics sample libraries. When all of these organic core library soundsources are combined with the synthesis power of the STEAM engine, the sounds become "alive" in a truly dynamic and expressive way.

Among the many unique features this new multi-timbral synth offers are its flexible arpeggiators with the world's first Groove Lock integration with Stylus RMX - allowing the arpeggiator's pattern to instantly groove with the feel of the RMX drum loop; Live Mode for transitionless patch switching and layering, Stack Mode for powerful performance mapping; and integrated modulatable FX Racks.

Omnisphere is also the successor to Spectrasonics' popular Atmosphere instrument, and contains enhanced versions of all the classic Atmosphere sounds. However, the brand new core library in Omnisphere is 10-times the size of Atmosphere and features thousands of completely new and different sounds.
